This tradition originated in Hungary and has spread around the world, even reaching Gramado, in the Serra Gaúcha region. In this post, we’ll tell you everything about this fountain, one of the most romantic attractions in the city.

The Eternal Love Fountain is located in Praça da Matriz, right next to the Igreja Matriz São Pedro, the beautiful stone church that is one of Gramado’s symbols. The church was built in the neo-Gothic style, with 78,000 basalt stones and stained glass windows depicting the life of St. Peter. The church was inaugurated in 1942, on the city’s patron saint day, and receives special lighting at night.

When the Eternal Love Fountain was built

In 2013, as a way to honor the couples who visit Gramado, a city known for its cozy and charming atmosphere. The fountain is surrounded by a railing, where couples can attach padlocks with their names or love messages. Then, they must throw the key into the fountain’s water, symbolizing that their love is eternal and cannot be undone.

To take part in this tradition, you can buy padlocks at the little shops in front of the fountain for around R$ 30.00. You can also personalize your padlock by writing or engraving whatever you want on it. The important thing is that the padlock represents your feelings for your partner. You can also capture the moment with a photo, which will look beautiful with the church in the background.
